I was born on June 9, 1940 in the Cumberland, Wisconsin hospital to Alton and Janice Grimsrud. They owned and operated the Turtle Lake Times weekly newspaper nearby. The family then moved to Zumbrota, Minnesota where I worked in my fatherʼs newspaper/print shop during my high school years and during the summers while earning a BA degree at St. Olaf College, majoring in art. I received an MA in painting from Minnesota State University – Mankato and an MFA in graphic design at Indiana University – Bloomington. I went on to teach art at the high school level. I also served on design staffs at Indiana Alumni Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post, Sacred Design Associates, and Daytonʼs department store. I was owner/publisher of the News-Record/Zumbro Shopper

newspapers from 1981-2007. Currently, I paint in my home studio in Zumbrota.
